Two Factor Authentication - Deep Dive Series

August 2023

Candid 2.11 has been in the hands of our customers for over a month now and it brought some pretty great improvements, such as the new Review Tool. Perhaps a bit less exciting (but still quite important!) is the addition of 2-factor authentication for built-in Candid accounts. In this news post, we will explore what 2-factor authentication is and why it is so important for security.

What is 2-Factor Authentication?

2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process that requires users to provide two separate forms of identification to verify their identity. It goes beyond the conventional username and password by adding an additional layer of security.

Typically, 2FA combines something you know (like a password) with something you have (like a mobile device). This might involve generating a temporary code on your phone, which you enter after your regular password, or using a dedicated authentication app to approve a login request.

The Benefits of 2-Factor Authentication

Increased Security

By requiring two separate factors to log in, 2FA greatly reduces the risk of unauthorized access. Even if an attacker manages to obtain your password, they would still need the second factor, making it significantly more difficult for intruders to gain access.

Protecting Sensitive Data

Normal usernames and passwords can be shared or stolen, but 2FA ensures that only the intended user can log in. By requiring your team to use 2FA, you can be confident that only authorized users are accessing Candid.

Easy to Use

Although it adds an extra step to the login process, 2FA is simple and user-friendly. Most people are already used to this extra layer of security from other online services.

Wrapping Up

Zeroarc is committed to building and maintaining a secure platform for our customers. In addition to the built-in 2FA, Candid also supports a variety of Single Sign-On (SSO) providers, including: Okta, Azure Active Directory, and One Login.
